The new Grand Central Optical store at 340 Madison Avenue in Midtown Manhattan is the eighth retail space that BFA has designed for this client since 1995.

Sited in a long, narrow, 960 sf space, the minimalist interior allows GCO’s wide selection of optical frames to star. The key feature of the design is a 30-foot-long internally-lit sales counter. BFA carried the materials palette over from previous GCO venues, including glass, stainless steel, dark rubber flooring, and a single accent color—in this location, a soft teal. The store’s trademark super-graphic of eyeglass frames is applied to the back-lit frosted glass wall of the store’s office, creating a welcoming visual focus at the end of the main sales space.

Prior BFA designs for Grand Central Optical have received the ASID Interior Design Specialty Award, Best Retail, and the Feltman Lumen Award, for lighting.
