Walt Whitman Branch, Brooklyn Public Library
Expected Completion 2024
BFA has been commissioned by the Brooklyn Public Library to renovate its historic Walt Whitman branch. One of the borough’s original Carnegie libraries, the 7,000-square-foot neoclassical building has been an anchor of the Fort Greene neighborhood since its 1908 construction. The project entails the functional, programmatic, and cosmetic refurbishment of the facility to meet the twenty-first century needs of its diverse community. Components include new mechanical systems, enhanced patron amenities, a new elevator for ADA accessibility, and exterior landscaping including a reading garden.
