Kent Hall Library, Columbia University
Kent Hall, designed by McKim, Mead & White, opened in 1911 as the Columbia University Law School and now houses East Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Culture. The library is one of the finest historic interiors on campus. BFA is part of the team directing the total restoration of the space, including installation of a fire suppression system and reconstruction of the ornate plaster ceiling. BFA’s design scope includes new and upgraded finishes, furniture, a new circulation desk, new entry doors and security gates, and, with WALD Studio, all new lighting, including restored historic chandeliers, new bookcase lighting, and architectural lighting to highlight the restored ceiling.
